Introduction to Agile (1 day)

A one day introduction to agile software development, suitable for mixed audiences but also customisable for programming or non-programming staff. The topics covered include:

  • Why do we need agile software processes?
  • A brief tour of the agile family
  • Extreme Programming – overview and practices
  • When can I use XP? What do I need?
  • Planning and tracking an XP project
  • Getting started with agile development
  • Common misconceptions about agile development

Our experience indicates that although there is enough material for a few days, it’s more beneficial to focus on the topics of particular interest to the attendees (which varies from course to course) in a single day. It is also possible to present this course in a half day, but in this case the focus is exclusively on Extreme Programming, and a great deal of framing material is omitted.

This course, in one of its many customised forms, has been successfully presented to a number of customers in Australia and New Zealand, including Agentis Software, Aspect Computing, On Q Group, Suncorp-Metway, and the New Zealand Met Service. It is offered as a public course by Software Education, and was also part of the public schedule of Software Engineering Australia, Queensland (now part of Object Training).
